Ole Miss New Media Conference this Thursday

NEWS RELEASE, UNIVERSITY, MS: As platform opportunities continue to grow and people continue to consume more digital content than ever before, the University of Mississippi is leading the way.

In one week, the Meek School of Journalism and New Media will host its first ever new media conference.  The goal of the one-day event is to give participants the tools to utilize social media in order to grow and strengthen their business.  Mississippi is ripe for such growth.

On Thursday, March 27th, industry experts will offer insight from the news broadcast genre plus the advertising and marketing world.

“Integrated Marketing is all about understanding customers, and synching every message that an organization sends – every tweet, every ad, every article, every sign, every employee interaction and more --- to create a coherent brand,” says Scott Fiene, the university’s program director of integrated marketing communications. “Obviously, new media is a big part of the communication mix.”

To aid professionals in understanding and utilizing multimedia components is one goal of the day’s event.

Deb Wenger, director of the undergraduate journalism program at Ole Miss, says offering more digital content for audiences is a smart move.  “There is an enormous amount of content that can be delivered to people using their mobile phones and other digital devices.  The speakers and workshops are certain to offer monetizing tools for business leaders.”

The event opens at 11am with ESPN’s Rob King addressing the audience about the role of multimedia devices.  Afternoon sessions will include Ole Miss faculty presentations, as well as advertising guru Bob Morris focusing on monetizing social media, and strategic planning from Hank Price, a veteran in the digital broadcast field.  Please note the day’s schedule below.
